Fuckityfuckityfuck.
Bad luck seems to be coming in bouts. Just as I'm trying to pick up the pieces of my so-called-life (read frozen bank account, credit card bills, suspended cell phone, degree list application, swim test, writing requirements, incomplete subjects, retrieve boxes in storage, find lost parcel from Amsterdam) my computer gets hit by the Welchia worm, a nasty variant of Blaster.
this i got in my inbox from the er, MIT Network Security team:
On September 1 at about 9:45 PM EDT, this system was sending TCP SYN packets on port 135 to thousands of IP addresses outside MIT. Typically, port-scan activity of this type occurs when intruders have compromised an MIT system, and are using it to try to identify systems elsewhere that can be compromised via an RPC protocol. The systems that can be compromised are usually ones that are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP and are not up-to-date on RPC patches...
like, you talkin english to me?
