lookin' in all the wrong places:

Ouch. My itsy bitsy fear has materialised. That all-American-skater/frat-six-foot-two-curly-haired boy, owner of a killer smile, my partner / eye candy in French class and recent object of obsession cause for unproductive use of time is, in fact, a FRESHMEN. (or freshman, if you want to be grammatically correct)
Which makes me a bloody paedophile *_*;;

The cook at the dorm cafeteria is disturbingly flirty. When I'm hungry, I just want to be fed. Sweet nothings don't do nothing for me at dinner time.

pouring rain has turned into snow...perhaps being left behind in Meheeco wouldn't be such a bad thing afterall ;p

Missed the Miami Winter Music Conference by a week. Doesn't seem like I missed much tho.

CYW wishes to inform you that she has, against her own wish, dragged her sunburnt ass back from the sunny paradise of West Indies back to the grey and rainy reality of New England:

How hypocritical of me to blog about my spring break cruise extravaganza right after an entry on anti-war protests. I spent 7 worry-free days floating somewhere between Miami, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Mexico. Got tanned like Kogepan, complete with strange overlapping shapes on my back from different swimsuits.

To summarize my trip Bridget Jones style: [cos I really need to shower, unpack and get back to my painful Structural Analysis design project (*o*) zzzz]

- Nautical miles traveled: 2000+
- Ports visited: Miami, Labadee - Haiti, Ocho Rios - Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel - Mexico
- Alcohol consumption: an angelic 0
- Calories consumption: god I'm in buffet-brunch hell. Middriff is reappearing
- Spent: $$$$$ - o shit.
- Book(s) read: 1 (I turned the intellectual part of my brain off [as if it exists])- Nick Hornby's Songbook [thx shortfuse]
- Sunblock SPF: 130 - still didn't stop me from getting fried in spite of frequent re-application
- Cool things done this week: [in order of coolness]
1) "Hugging" sting ray(s) at Cayman - I didn't have the guts to feed them but they do have the softest, silkiest touch. The piscine creatures are surprisingly friendly and act like cuddly dogs around humans.
2) Climbing up a waterfall at Ocho Rios - the place was swarming with fellow cruiser-tourists, but it was still a heart-wringingly exciting climb.
3) Going to the Mayan ruin site / beach from heaven at Tulum, Mexico - I can die now.
- The only insane thing I've done all week: running barefoot in nothing but swimsuit [think hippy triathelon athelete with midriff] for what felt like a mile or two at Xel-Ha, Mexico, in fear of missing tour bus => being left behind South of the Border => being abducted by some tourist-kidnapping pimp => coerced into prostitution as semi-nude sex slave...

The ultimate proof that American media sucks:
I saw 6 helicopters, at least a dozen TV network vans, countless camcorders and cameras today. But do you see any frontpage headlines mentioning Boston-wide protests? I had to search Google news, only to find one or two sentences in anti-war articles on websites of ASIAN news channels. WTF is wrong with this nation?!

Ever been to a protest before? I hadn't.

Until today.

It took an awful lot to drag a hermit like me out of her shell - ie. the actual start of the war. You may say isn't it a bit late to go to rallies now? Well I say NOW IS BETTER THAN NEVER.

Anti-war voices are no longer unheard. Thousands of pacifists and humanists from MIT, Tufts, Harvard, MassArt, Berkelee, BU and Simmons gathered today at Government Center. It felt great cos for six months, I've been the only person in my small circle of friends who strongly feels this war palava is unjustified. Marching along with 4000 people on Mass. Av across a Harvard Bridge closed to traffic, yelling slogans and making peace signs was a small release for all the dissatisfaction I've tucked away for months. For once, I like America. But I couldn't help wonder - why aren't ANY of my school friends here with me? Is it because I don't have enough friends? Or is it because I haven't been making friends with ppl who have a social conscience?

Have been swept off my consumeristic feet, so to speak, by the tidal wave of fashion "stuntvertising" campaigns, be they real or spoofs:

The Gucci ad featuring Carmen Kass' pubes, the Opium ad ft. a naked and SKINNY Sophie Dahl [and I thought the fashionisatas loved her cos she's size 16?!], the male full frontal for YSL M7 - you gotta ask,"Is Tom Ford having a decade-long pre-menstrual oestrogen rush?"

To be followed by a brilliant round of spoofs:
Horny Puma-sporting lovers in the midst of their act - I'll never see my trusty trainers [see 30/9 entry] in the same way again. Damn, how come I'm not getting any?
What is Victoria's Secret? - Welcome to BulimicsGlamorised.com. Coincidentally I made a video about this two years ago.
Twisted Nokia phone vid - cos that's what phone cams are for. Level of cruelty to animals is comparable to Bonsai Kitten, courtesy of Zoz, a GRT @ MIT ;)

Last but not least: you don't have to be an uberzeitgeist brand to use sex in your ads - see Pony's latest gag.

life would be a breeze if you were Chelsea Clinton... [all via gawker]

Gotta love the French - Colette is a major incentive to keep up my francais.
The lilywhite buttheads at White House can keep the sodding "freedom fries" to themselves.
Spending 2.5 unproductive hours on FlipFlopFlyin' made a dispirited moi happy. The man behind the lovely pixels of I Love Colette is a wunderkind.

Other simple joys - Barbapapa - I wish i can say they were my childhood idols but that would be lying. Reminds me of the Shoe People but amorphous blobs are so much cooler.

all phone manufacturers should come up with phones like this [see number 3] so dumb ppl like me won't lose their phones all over the place.

How good is good enough?

Tiny bubble of euphoria was burst today with a bang. Got my assignment back for the visualisation a.k.a. AutoCAD Hell class. After giving the class my heart and soul, [which means giving up all human contact, camping out at the souless Athena cluster and not sleeping for weeks on end] I got a mere 7.3 out of 10, which is possibly a B/C. WTF!!! I thought the prof liked my stuff. Has he no sympathy for people who have never used CAD before and can't use a computer to save their lives?

Am feeling dejected and demoralised. Me, prima-donna-artsy-fartsy-slacker-chick + tip-top hardcore techie school is simply not meant to be. Is a bloody miracle I haven't jumped off the Green building yet.

things one does for "art" videos:

1. Showering with camcorder + tripod under alternating arse-freezing / skin-scaulding water for 90 mins, risking personal health and steaming camcorder to malfunction
2. Risking on-screen indecent exposure
3. Forsaking personal reputation as normal human being by making excessive amounts of silly faces on camera
4. Not sleeping to edit 12 hours straight

All for a 2 min 18s long video and a "I liked your video" from all mighty prof.

ditto with Autocad Hell version 6.0 - camping out in the miserable Windows based Athena cluster paid off. Homework was used by prof in lecture as example of "good" CAD design. [er..huhmm] Too bad I cut lecture to catch up on sleep.

spring break dilemmas for a flat-chested, big-bottomed girl:

To bikini or not to bikini, that is the question.

Figure-itively speaking, I am a freak of nature. Which leaves me terribly few options when it comes to swimwear: the modest, boring one-piece. Swimwear must be the only section of my wardrobe that has barely diverisified since the age of hmmm....4? The last time I sported a frilly pink two-piece I still had floaters on my arms.
Am whining about this cos bikinis seem to be de rigeur in the States. and DARN they have cute ones too. As I have nothing with me save a navy Speedo suit from my well-past swim team days, I spent the whole weekend browsing online for more stylish one-pieces, but to no avail. The only thing I can imagine sporting is a Burberry's halter swimsuit, but am in no financial state to acquire a chic new aquatic wardrobe either. Damn it, mother why can't you FedEx my Marc Jacobs-esque polka dot tankini over??

The Gala at Brown was a blast.
As Jess's "date" I got each of us a corsage. The florist looked at me with muted disapproval after I told him they were for my girlfriend. [>_o]?
Short hair does not = lesbo, even if i have queer dreams from time to time.

Dancing in a cream suit + dark camisole made me look like the female version of John Travolta / Elvis.

Someone actually likes the crappy abstract film I made! [See 9th Feb entry]

The festival would like to show your film "Shaman". We all liked it quite a bit, and Jeff Silva is interested in showing it at his "Balagan" series at the Coolidge Corner Theater next month in a program of hand-made films.
Will that be the first step towards the Ladder of Fame in the art world? Anyhow, I'll put it up on my school webpage once the semester is over.
